The Peculiar Art of Mr. Frahm

The Peculiar Art of Mr. Frahm

Jan 1, 2005
by Daniel H Goode

Very often, the early years of PinUp are associated with the works of such artists as Elvgren and Vargas. There were many others, but perhaps one of the most intriguing progenitors of the form was Art Frahm. His was not a household name. In fact, recently when I mentioned him to a friend, they thought that "Art Frahm" was a form of art, instead of the artists name, such as "Art Deco". (Random aside, for many years, I thought that "Max Factor" meant Maximum Factor. Imagine my delight when I found out it was someone's name.)

Mr. Frahm had something of a knack for capturing the "Girl in Distress" imagery and distilling it into a rather simple formula. The formula often consisted almost entirely of the effects of gravity and celery on the elasticity of panties, and seems to be triggered only at the most inopportune moments.

While we could discuss this for ages, the "Institute of Official Cheer" does a far better job then we ever could. Check out their wonderful homage to Art Frahm and the strange and often perverse universe in which comely young ladies find their panties at the mercy of unknowable forces.
