2008 in Review

Two Thousand and Eight is over, and not a moment too soon. The Global economy has crashed in a spectacular way. Companies are dropping like flies. Gross mis-management, out of control lending and spending. The party had to end sooner or later, but I don't think even the most ardent prognosticators saw this one coming.
2008 also saw a number of people leave us. Among the many people we lost last year, probably the most relevant to RetroKitten was Bettie Page. The original Pin-Up. Let's face it, amateur modeling probably wouldn't exist in it's current form without pioneers like Bettie. We are pretty sure that RetroKitten wouldn't exist.
Bettie defined a medium and she became an object of lust to countless people and ironically, an idol to countless young girls (and not a few young boys).
Bettie had been living a quiet life in seclusion for decades. Declining interviews and the spotlight. Her Garbo-esque shunning of publicity only made her more mysterious. Bettie Page bangs are still sported by an army of aspiring models and some girls have even made careers mimicking her singular style.
There is little that we can say that hasn't already been said, so instead, we'll share our final thought for Bettie with you.
"Thank you Bettie. Your beauty and your style captivated and inspired us. We will miss you, but we are glad that we had a chance to know you."
Here's hoping that we can pull our heads out of our collective asses and use 2009 to correct the mess that we've spent the last ten years creating.
