We're Back!
Feb 8, 2004 by Daniel H GoodeIt's been a really odd year. Back when RetroKitten was created in 2000, we never thought that we would have the roller coaster ride that we have. A lot has happened and a lot has changed, but we didn't entirely fade away, and hopefully, like the Phoenix, we will rise from the ashes better than ever.
So what exactly DID happen you are asking. It really is a long story, but we will make it brief. After our near fatal closing in 2002 from a Microsoft Worm, we rebuilt, restored almost all of our content and redesigned the site from scratch. All was going along swimingly until our intrepid executive editor Mr Goode started feeling kind of bad. As it turns out, he had a pretty severe case of Viral Meningitis that was left unchecked for almost two months. When he was finally admitted to the hospital, it was too late to avert the minor brain damage and loss of vision and motor skills.
Several months of using a walker, re-learning to speak and basically learning to live all over again, but the road to recovery wasn't too bad. Sadly, the return to normality coincided with yet ANOTHER infection by a Microsoft based worm, only this time, it completely wiped out the site. All accounts, articles, photos, everything was gone.
The decision was made internal to Tangled Web Productions to convert from the Microsoft Windows Internet Information Server platform to a Unix based service. Sadly, RetroKitten being a free service and relatively low on the totem pole in company priorities got shelved until such time as the staff could focus on it again.
After almost eight months in limbo, RetroKitten is finally back! Hopefully to stay this time (knock on wood). Our mission remains the same. To provide a place where Models, Photographers, Artists and Performers in alternative genres (goth, fetish, retro, etc) can find others to collaborate with.
The only major change, aside from an actual staff, is that we are switching from monthly to bimonthly issues, and we have already begun to plan our first ever print issue! (Tentatively slated for 2005).
We hope to once again regain our status as the place to be seen, and to find out what's happening in the various scenes. Our services have been refined to make that experience the best available and we think you will be pleasantly surprised.
Thanks for bearing with us for so long. Cya on the internet! :)
